HEATHER
when reki walks past, langa's attention will always drift to him. sometimes he'll even leave my side to go talk to him. like i wasn't even there. like his boyfriend meant less to him when compared to reki kyan.
no more eating lunch with me or walking me home. now he eats with reki and goes to the skate park after school. i'm glad langa got a new friend and a new interest, but i can't help feeling left out. why am i the third wheel in my own relationship? how can reki kyan take all of langa's attention away in a second without even trying?
seeing the way langa and reki jump into each other's arms when langa learns a new trick or when one of them wins a beef makes me want to die. it's such a sight for sore eyes, seeing my boyfriend show more love towards reki than he has shown me in months.
the way langa's eyes search for reki instead of me will always hurt. i'm wearing his hoodie but i've never felt colder. his best friend is more important than his boyfriend. it makes me wish i was reki kyan.

CW BELOW THE CUT: Sadge Reki, light panic attack symptoms
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, he knows what your thinking. Langa should’ve just been a big boy and communicated his feelings to Reki. But, he didn’t want to make his best friend worry to death about him. What he wasn’t expecting were the repercussions of the secret being kept.
How did this all happen?
Reki had just watched Langa finally nail his trick. It took the new skater quite a few tries, and it was quite obvious that he was frustrated.
Regardless, the redhead threw his arms around his best friend excitedly, damn near jumping him onto the ground.
Langa grimaced at the contact, leading the other boy to instantly remove himself.
“Langa?” His eyebrows furrowed as a pout found its way to his lips.
“Don’t worry about it, Reki.” The blue-haired boy replied with a faint smile.
That was enough for Reki to enter overthinking mode. What did he do? Was someone hurting Langa? Was Langa hurt and didn’t want to tell him? Did Langa not like him anymore? What if? What if? What if?
“Sorry!” He chuckled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck in a sudden meekness. “I just got a little excited, that’s all.”
“…Right.” Langa replied in a quiet monotone.
The redhead’s heart seized at the response. He fumbled his phone out of his pocket, opening any apps possible to feign getting a message.
“Oh man, mom needs me home. The twins got into the pantry and there’s applesauce all over the floor.” Reki sighed and faked a smile toward his best friend. “You know how babies can be eheh…”
“Don’t worry about it. Just let me know if everyone’s okay.”
“Right! I’ll let you know, see ya later!”
Reki’s should’ve known to actually going home. But, he didn’t know what else to do, so he went to see the person he knew would always have his back. He tried to keep his emotions in, but his mind was swimming, and he was quite honestly panicking.
With shaking hands, he pulled open the door to Sia La Luce. The restaurant was quite busy, given the time of the day. He was about to turn back around to deal with his emotions outside when he heard a voice over his shoulder.
“How many for- Reki? Why aren’t you in school?” Joe appeared from behind the kitchen, wiping his hands with a towel. “Reki?”
The redhead turned around, revealing the tears dripping down his cheeks, and the choked sobs he was barely managing to keep inside.
Joe’s gaze softened as he placed a reassuring hand on he boy’s shoulder. Reki closed his eyes and leaned into the contact, leading the older man to move his hand down to the small of his back.
The green-haired male observed the patrons in his restaurant, noticing that they were either finishing up their food, or hadn’t ordered yet. “I’m sorry to do this so suddenly, but I have a family emergency, and I need everyone to please leave.” Joe’s voice was calm, yet demanding, making the people realize he meant business.
Within five minutes, all of the patrons had left the building, leaving their bill money behind on the table. Joe turned to the crying boy and held both of his hands, “I’m right here, Reki. Take a minute, deep breaths.”
The younger male sniffled as he gasped in shallow breaths. His eyes were squeezed shut, tears leaking from them. He leaned forward quickly, letting his forehead collide with Joe’s chest. The older male didn’t hesitate to securely wrap the boy in a hug.
“Reki? What’s-“
“Langa ha-hates me.” the redhead choked, “He-He has to. He’s n-not himself.”
“I doubt he hates you.” Joe soothed, “Something must be up with him. I promise that everything is gonna be okay, okay?”
Reki sniffled and nodded as he leaned into the embrace. Joe whispered reassurances to him as he gently rubbed circles into the boy’s back. With his free hand, he took out his phone to text Kaoru a 911, only to hesitate with his thumb over the send button, noticing that the man had done the same.
Langa must’ve went to talk to him.
The two older men texted their plans, and within ten minutes all four of them were inside the restaurant. Reki hid his gaze from Langa, not wanting to piss his friend off.
“Okay, the two of you need to talk, right now.” Cherry noted, a secure hand on Langa’s shoulder.
“Reki I-“
“Langa I-“
The two spoke simultaneously, ceasing to let the other finish.
“Reki, talk.” Joe demanded.
“Langa I’m really sorry if I did anything to make you hate me I really don’t want to ruin our friendship and I’m just honestly really terrified of losing you because you’re one of my only friends and-“
“Reki.” Langa’s eyes were sympathetic, “Did I really scare you that badly? I’m so sorry!”
The redhead cocked his head as he blinked away threatening tears. “What does that mean?”
Langa sighed in remorse as he ran up to his friend, wrapping him in a hug. “When you jumped on me, you leaned on my bad shoulder. When I fell the time before landing it, I really messed up my shoulder. I didn’t want to tell you and make you worry, but now I see that I was wrong.”
Reki chuckled as he wiped his eyes “Did you really think that would work?”
“At first, yes. But now, no.” Langa couldn’t help but giggle too. “I’m really sorry, again. I should’ve just told you.”
“It’s okay. I’m just glad you don’t hate me or anything. From now on, no more secrets.”
“No more secrets.”
“How touching.” Cherry announced, “Have the two of you sorted things out? I’m not keen on keeping my shop abandoned this long.”
The two boys apologized as they looked at the ground.
“C’mon, Kaoru. I’m sure you have time to spare 15 minutes for a family emergency.” Joe teased.
“Family emergency…” the pink-haired male grumbled. He looked at the two boys and couldn’t help the smile that teased at his lips. “And what a wonderful family it is.”

reki crushing on a popular reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: reki kyan x gn!reader
tags: infatuated!reki, worries about unrequited feelings, angsty
Tumblr media
reki knows that you're out of his league!
he knew the moment he laid eyes on you, that he had no chance with you, but his friends kept reminding him of it as well
you were always surrounded by people, who wanted to be your friends or who wanted to ask you out on a date
there were guys ten times as handsome as reki and you still turned them down, so how could he even stand a chance with you?
reki initially fell for your looks, but the more he found out about you, the more he began to like you for your personality as well
he heard that when a guy confessed to you, you stayed kind while turning them down, even when they got rude or aggressive
and he knew that you treated everyone the same, no matter their appearance or status!
those were the things that made it hard to move on and forget about you, since reki knew there was a reason that everyone liked you; you were a good person!
perhaps, you were the best person reki had ever met, which was exactly why he couldn't just move on from you
reki knew that he had to confess to you, even if it meant getting turned down, like those other guys!
at the very least, he might have the chance to become your friend afterwards, which would be enough for him…

Only One Shines Greater
Synopsis: Years of working tirelessly, taking in a student with more potential than you provided by tenfold. That must hurt.
Tags: Angst, barely any plot, very much not proofread (made this at 3am after watching an ig reel), mildly hot take (idk)
Tumblr media
"There's nothing I can do," you shrug, shaking your head with a proud smirk. "You're perfect!"
You complimented your student well over a hundred times each lesson. You have been training and practicing religiously for an event hosted to show your abilities being rumored to come by. From your swings to your defensive attacks, you made sure each corner was backed and ready to go. All the while, a rookie comes by asking to train with you-- saying that they had developed a great interest in the events and needed guidance. To which, you agreed, happily.
For days and days, you two bonded and guided one another to core yourselves optimally. They got the hang of everything so quick, you'd become quite proud of your teaching style. You stood tall, shining at your ability to teach an amateur to soon become a natural--in only a few weeks!
So...
Why? Why did it hurt to see him go past you as if you were nothing. Had it been your fault that you were open for their moves and been defeated like used tissue?
You were supposed to be happy that you'd trained him so well. You were supposed to beam with pride. to cheer him on as he shot you down so easily. So, Why?
Why did it hurt so damn much to see him succeed.
After everything you put yourself through for it.
Was all of that hard work meaningless. Maybe it was all worthless put against those who are talented.
You sat out in a bench at the park, a few hours after the match. You ran off after briefly sharing a nod, not being able go handle seeing your student--no, your friend--win the one thing you were supposed to be good at. Petty as it was, you couldn't help but rush for some fresh air after the match was over.
Sat on the bench, you stared at the stars, memories of the match passing by you. It was never a competition, but it was a statement of strength--and if you aren't strong, what were you supposed to be.
"Theres nothing I can do." you state, eyes glazed, the shine of moon's light showing them slowly water. "You're perfect." You finish, a single tear rolling down your cheek as you saw your friend, once student, standing away from you with a look of absolute guilt.
Your smile never reach your eyes after that, a memory that you both will share. For their sake, you were quiet. For your sake, you retired early. Childish decision, but that guilt shreds them every day.

Art by @laurydoodles on twt <3
The teacher thought she was doing them a favor, putting them together in this project. Why wouldn’t she? They were best friends, weren’t they?
Lately, though, it hadn’t exactly felt like it.
The school day had finished, and Reki wasted no time gathering his things and heading out. He didn’t even bother turning to see if Langa would follow him, but of course, he would. He had no idea what thoughts rampaged in the redhead's mind at the mere sight of Langa’s face.
“Uh- Reki?” the lanky teen called, fumbling with his supplies. Reki turned from the door, staring back at him, unimpressed.
“You know where I live,” he said flatly. A shrug and the redhead is once again on his way out the door.
“You expect me to remember that?” He heard distantly, and man, Reki missed making fun of his memory. Making fun of his sloppiness, yet turning right back around and ensuring he was perfect.
But that was the problem, wasn’t it?
No one should be perfect, and Langa wasn’t. Those weren’t the traits of a perfect person, Reki should know. He had all of them and more…
Yet, when Langa performed those actions and flaunted those quirks, it was seen as endearing. Cute.
‘What am I doing wrong?’
Just as he was about to exit the building, Langa came running up behind him, huffing and puffing. Already, he could hear a group of girls that stood nearby giggle and whisper about him. But not in the way they giggled and whispered about Reki.
“C’mon, Reki!” Langa said, holding his side as he made his way over. “I know you’re not talking to me or whatever, but this is for a grade, you know!”
“Yeah,” the redhead states, dropping his board and stepping on. “I know.”
And he proceeds to skate away. Being around Langa just isn’t healthy for him… and he needs to start prioritizing himself a little. He’s spent too much energy on everybody else.
There was a groan from the former, and he dropped onto his board as well to go after him, but of course, he gets stopped by those girls. Reki watched their frames get smaller and smaller as he continued home.
He used to be proud of Langa whenever he got another love confession, but now he was just jealous and frustrated and all the feelings he shouldn’t be feeling. He’s such a bad friend. Why can’t he just push his negative emotions away and be normal again?
He couldn’t even smile at him anymore.
He arrived home, dropping his things lazily by the door and shuffling to his room. He hears his mother say hi, but he can’t find the energy to return the sentiment. He locks his door and flops onto his bed.
Langa would be there any minute.
What should he do?
There had to be a way to at least prolong this inevitable interaction… but how?
Reki lifts his head, peering around his room. He could take a shower. A long, steaming hot shower that would hopefully burn all these disgusting thoughts from his mind.
‘Shut up,’ he told himself. ‘It’s not that serious.’
He grabs a simple pair of plaid pajama pants and a band tee before heading to the bathroom.
His speaker already sits on the counter, so he connects it to his phone and sits on the toilet while waiting for the water to heat. He scrolls through endless skateboard images online before he starts to miss Langa again and promptly shuts it off, feeling the stinging in his throat.
The water is blistering hot, to the point where he physically releases an “Ouch!”, jumping back.
…That was good though. Just that little shock of pain took his mind off Langa.
Maybe that’s what he needs. A distraction.
The boy takes his second attempt at stepping under the water, and although it burns his skin… it feels good.
He gets used to it in no time and proceeds to sing his heart out, not caring who might happen to walk past the bathroom and hear.
As he enters his room, still humming the words to one of the many Radiohead songs in his playlist, he’s stopped dead in his tracks by the frosty blue eyes that find his.
They both blinked seemingly in tandem before Langa gave a chuckle and said, “I didn’t know you could sing.”
The emotion is wiped from Reki’s face and he sighs, sliding into his desk chair. “Do you make it a hobby to spy on people in the shower or is that just a me thing?”
“Only when they think their Thom Yorke.”
Reki met him with a flat look, and the boy shrugged. An eye roll and the redhead turned back to his desk.
“Fifty-fifty it,” he said. “I’m not trying to talk to you.”
“C’mon Reki,” Langa pleaded, seemingly not interested in doing work. That’s good, he guessed. Reki wasn’t either. “Can’t we just talk about it?”
Reki gave a long, hard look into his eyes, searching far and wide for any hint of another betrayal, but they were so pretty that it was no good trying to find anything but perfection. He simply settled for turning back around. “Don’t look at me like that.”
Langa stands to his feet, taking a hesitant step forward. “Like what?”
“Like-“ he looks back over his shoulder dejectedly. “Like fucking that, man!” He feels his voice about to crack, so he breaks eye contact and stares back down at his desk. “Like this is all my fault somehow.”
“I just want to talk to you, Reki,” Langa says, his hands out as if he were trying to reason with him. “Please?”
“Well, I don’t, alright?” the redhead stated, a note of finality in his tone as he pulled his backpack into his lap to retrieve his notebooks. “What do you-“
“Are you saying it’s my fault then?” Langa asked, clearly not picking up on Reki’s attempt to not talk about this.
The was a groan from the latter, and he glared back at the former, his shoulders tight as he snarled, “Of fucking course it’s your fault!” He stood to his feet, his backpack discarded and forgotten. With every word, he moved closer, a sneer on his lips. “I warned you about ADAM. Didn’t I? You saw what he did to me, right?”
“I was just-!”
“What?” Reki interrupts. “Having fun? Curious? He could’ve fucking killed me, Langa! Do you not understand that?!”
“He wouldn’t have killed you.”
“You don’t know that!” He yelled, arms flaring as he turned away to calm himself down. God, he didn’t want to yell at him. He really didn't want to yell at him.
But god-fucking-damnit! He made it so easy!
“Reki…” Langa said, and there he went, saying his name in that way that he knew made Reki fold. It’s unhealthy!
“Langa!” He says, turning, exasperated. “What isn’t clicking, man?”
The blue-haired teen gives a huff, pulling his lips into his mouth. His eyes wandered everywhere but to Reki as he said, “I don’t get why you can’t be proud of me.”
Reki’s brows scrunch. “What-?”
“I’m going to beat ADAM for both of us, Reki!” There’s a grin starting to peek through, almost triumphant. “Isn’t that a good thing?”
“… I never asked you to take down ADAM, Langa.”
Langa’s face fell, but his voice still held volume as he said, “I know. But I still want to.”
Reki peers back up through eyes just barely glossed over. “Why?”
He stammered a few times, searching for the words before: “Because I care about you, Reki!” He exclaimed, throwing up his hands. “Is that so hard to believe?”
“Yes! Langa!” Reki replied, his voice wobbling and cracking. “Yes, it is!”
Emotion from every corner of his mind seemed to seep into Langa’s eyes, and Reki thought that maybe he finally understood.
“Do you get it, now?” He asked, his voice sounding like something between a laugh and a cry. “Ever since you were met with the idea of beating ADAM, it’s like you’ve been obsessed!”
“That’s not-“
“You don’t care about me,” Reki went on, his vision so blurred he could hardly see his surroundings. “You don’t care about anything but beating ADAM. But guess what, Langa.”
Reki met the latter's eyes no matter how hard he resisted. “I cared about you. I cared so much that I made you promise that you wouldn’t go against ADAM because I know what he’s capable of. You saw what he did to me. Do you want to see the scars? Would that get it through your thick fuckin’ skull?”
Reki was panting. Air was hard to come by right now. He just wanted Langa to understand.
The boy in question opened and closed his mouth several times. There were so many words so clearly on his tongue, but it seemed only a fraction came out with, “… What scars?”
“What? Did you think I was getting out of there good as new?” Reki scoffed. He turned and lifted the back of his shirt, revealing that valley of stains and scrapes on his back, a constant reminder of what he let happen that day. The boy let out a chuckle, bitter and guttural as it may have been. “Not pretty?”
He looked over his shoulder to gauge a response, but all he saw was Langa’s mouth flapping open and closed once more.
“Reki, I’m-“
“Don’t you dare say you’re sorry,” Reki gritted through his teeth, letting his shirt fall back down to meet the others' eyes again. “Not again.”
More blinking. More mouthing.
“You know what?” Reki said, turning back to his desk chair. “This is going nowhere. Let’s just finish this project so you can get out of my room.”
Langa still hadn’t moved, but his eyes were starting to gloss over now.
Reki didn’t know how long he’d hold up if he started crying.
He watched, waited. He knew this boy well, even if their relationship had… shifted, in the past weeks. Langa had the tendency to lock himself in mind prisons when met with daunting obstacles. He just needed a minute to lay down the tracks for his train of thought.
Reki supposed he could give it to him.
Turning back to the desk and retrieving his backpack, he gets to work on the first half of the assignment. He’s about 20 seconds in when there’s shuffling behind him. Reki doesn’t turn, though, until Langa taps his shoulder, because the boy tends to be fragile in whatever his current emotion may be after figuring his way out of his mind prison. Sometimes he doesn’t want to talk or interact until the objective at hand is complete. Sometimes he is still a little tangled up in there and doesn’t like to be touched until he’s fully free.
Reki knows these things because he cares.
And because he cares, he recognizes that look in Langa’s eye and sighs, standing and letting him crash in to hug him.
‘It’s unhealthy’ says that voice in the back of his mind, but all he could hear, see, smell, feel was Langa, Langa, Langa, and man has he missed it.
“I’m sorry,” the taller of the two mumbled.
“For what?” Reki replies, the sound muffled by Langa’s shoulder.
“For… for breaking your promise,” he answers.
There’s silence for a long, long moment before, “I really miss you, Langa.”
Langa took a step back, and Reki immediately missed him. God, why can’t they just go back to normal? Why is he still so bitter about this?
“Can we please be friends again?” Langa asked, and Reki's heart tumbled to his toes.
He’s so pretty, even when he cries.
He’s so pretty, and talented, and funny, and everything Reki isn’t.
Is he a bad person for not liking him for that?
He was jealous. Reki Kyan was so jealous of Langa it wasn’t even funny because Langa is perfect in every way and Reki… isn’t. And he would keep blaming Langa for that until he blamed himself, and no one wanted to be friends with someone as lame as that.
And so, with a heavy heart, Reki shakes his head.
“We just aren’t right for each other anymore.”
And it’s a very silent night of completing their project before Reki finally has his room back to himself.

SELF INDULGENT THINK TIME-
Reki thinks that when people don’t reply to him, they’re mad at him. This happens with Langa, and he’s quick to tuck his tail btwn his legs and lament to Joe.
As it turns out, Langa’s mom was on a business trip, and phone was dead the whole weekend. Without a device to ask for a ride, he didn’t have any way to get to the store.
(Headcanons to Dabbles: OFFICIALLY CLOSED)
Oh God this is so REAL! Ducky this is absolutely brilliant holy canoli- kjarjkejrjejkreajraj Your mind is beyond brilliant AHH! I've gotcha covered :D
Reki anxiously checked his phone, still finding no response from Langa. Normally this wouldn’t bother him- he knew the blue haired teen was a slow texter and even slower replier. Sometimes it took him an entire hour to reply; usually with a paragraph of meaningful words or just a meme because he couldn’t find any.
An entire weekend however? The redhead knew he messed up. He had too- why else would Langa ignore his texts? He was even left on read!
Reading back his previous messages did nothing to help; they were discussing skateboard designs and tricks they wanted to emulate. Reki threw in a few jokes, Langa replied in kind- it all read like normal.
Did he misread the tone? Was Langa seriously mad? Oh hell…
“You look like you’re gonna cry- what’s going on?” Joe asked, leaning against the counter as the last of his patrons left. Despite his teasing tone, he looked a bit concerned. “Lover’s quarrel?”
“Is it?” Reki ignored the joke as he gave the older man his phone, slumping miserably as Joe read over the messages. “I didn’t see him at all yesterday, and he wasn’t at the store today. I texted him, but he never got back to me. He’s angry at me- he has to be!”
“Calm down- just because he didn’t respond doesn’t mean he’s mad.” Joe reached out, squeezing Reki’s shoulder as the other started to panic. “I don’t see anything that could mean he’s mad at you; Maybe he’s having a technology detox. That’s a thing, right?”
Reki stared at him. Joe relented.
“Okay okay- fine. He wouldn’t do that. But he also wouldn’t ignore you either.” He came around the counter when Reki sniffed, pulling him into a side hug and squeezing him tightly. “He probably has a good reason for not texting. Watch- he’ll come walking in right now and prove to you he’s not mad at you. Okay?”
The younger boy didn’t look up, frowning at his hands. Joe sighed softly before wiggling his fingers into Reki’s neck, making him jerk away and giggle. “Understand?”
“Uhuuhhunderstahahnd! Uhuuhuhnderstahhahnd, oohohkay stop!” Reki laughed, swatting at him with a small glare. At least he was smiling now.
Suddenly, the doors behind them were thrown open.
“JOE!” A flustered Langa all but yelled out, out of breath and sweaty. It looked like he ran here. “Joe- I need a charger…heeeeh...business trip...phone died…heeehaaa....cat chewed through my charger…heehhh..we don’t even own a cat…how’d it even get in…?”
Joe stared, as did Reki. Then the older man was laughing- howling with mirth and wheezing out something about being a psychic. He stumbled back to the kitchen as Langa practically threw himself at Reki, an apology and an explanation lost beneath the sounds of Joe’s cackles.
He could not WAIT to tell Karou. At least Reki looked happy now.

langa with a crush who hides her identity during competitions
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: langa hasegawa x fem!reader
summary: langa is unaware that the mysterious skater from S and the girl from school that he likes are the same person...
Tumblr media
you first caught langa's attention at S, during an underground skateboarding race
you seemed to win against every competitor with ease, yet you weren't as cocky about your victory as many others would've been
while others would let themselves be celebrated by everyone, you just slipped away from the crowd and tried to avoid others
langa couldn't even see your face, hidden behind a face mask and a hoodie that was pulled down too much
but he memorized what you wore and so during his next time at S, he started to look for you
and when he found you, asking you to race against him, you didn't even look at him, your head lowered
without even answering, neither accepting his request nor turning him down, you hurried away
the next time langa met you was at school, though by then he wasn't aware that he was talking to that mysterious person he met at S
no, you looked nothing like you did back then; wearing your school uniform and a skirt, unlike those gender nonconforming clothes you wore at S
without knowing it, langa had approached you to ask you to help him with something at school and he started to get closer to this side of you as well
for a long time, langa hadn't thought about that mysterious guy he saw at S, until the two of you crossed paths again one night
you were racing against another guy, when he tried to push you off your board while rounding a corner
langa watched as you lost your footing and fell onto the ground, your skateboard rolling a bit further until it came to a halt as well
he rushed towards you, seeing you laying there on the ground and when he carefully turned you around, langa was surprised to see your face
you were the girl from school! the same sweet and kind girl from school was that mysterious and distant skater that langa had assumed had been a guy all along…
though he didn't have much time to think about it any further, since you clearly needed to patch up your wounds and check if you broke anything
langa carefully picked you up and carried your unconscious body off the tracks
by the time you gained consciousness again, you were at a hospital, your ankle sprained and next to your hospital bed was langa, asleep on a chair
after all, he couldn't have let you alone and he needed to make sure you were alright
especially now that he knew that the skater he admired and the girl from school he liked were the same person…
